Reporting the Death Out of Hour's

​

Before any out of hour's burial arrangement can be made, the family (next of kin) will need to report the death and obtain the Burial Order, often referred to as the "green". 

​

The Registrar of Births and Deaths has a provision for out of hour's reporting at weekends and Bank Holidays. This window is from 10am to 12pm.  

​

If the MCCD has been scanned and emailed to the Registration Service the on-call Registrar will process the MCCD and contact the next of kin to carry out the process over the telephone. Once the process has been completed the on-call Registrar will issue a Burial Order (green) and email it to the nominated Funeral Director/Arranger.  On receipt of the Burial Order, the Funeral Director/Arranger will be in a position to contact us on the number in the section below to make arrangements to meet our duty officer to make an out of hour's burial booking.

Important:

For deaths where the cause of death is known the hospital where the death took place, or issuing GP will scan the MCCD directly to the Registrar of Births & Deaths, no physical documents will be provided to the family. Once received by the Registrar and the MCCD is processed the Registrar will contact the next of kin by telephone to make provision for a Burial Order.

 

Be advised, this remote process is no longer a formal registration. A "face to face" appointment will be made for the informant to formally register the death during normal working hours.

The Registrar will then email the Burial Order directly to the Funeral Director and the Leicester City Council cemeteries department, no physical documents will be provided to the family. ​
